Amagansett

Amagansett, located in East Hampton, was originally a whaling and
fishing colony. It is well-known for the abundance of outdoor and
beach activities through its nature preserves and well-kept ocean
sought out by bicyclers, kayakers and surfers. Its homes are a mix of
traditional with post-modern where old architecture meets new design.
Sporting a bit more of laid back lifestyle than other parts of the
Hamptons, you will find homes ranging in price on average from the
$800s to $35 million and more. You will find a gorgeous layout of
rustic cottages with ocean front access, ranch-style houses and
landscaped acres. Much of the wetlands and evergreen forests in the
area are preserved and many properties require permits for building on
the land.

Historic properties include Miss Amelia's Cottage which is located on
the property of Amagansett's founders - Abraham and Jacob Schellinger.
It houses a museum of colonial antiquities. Overlooking the ocean is
the Marine Museum - which gives the history of whaling in Amagansett.
