Chinatown has been and remains a neighborhood of strong ethnic history. Over time this neighborhood has experienced a heavy flux of Chinese immigration thus having a large impact on the surrounding neighborhoods of Little Italy, Tribeca, Soho and Lower East Side. Most of Chinatown is composed of typical New York City walk-up buildings, and yet it has a vibe different than anywhere else in the city. On many streets, all the signs are written in Chinese, and it is this authenticity, as well as the delicious, authentic food, that brings visitors to the area.
