Bryant Park to Host 400-Person Game of Musical Chairs

MIDTOWN — It's every fanny for itself next Wednesday in Bryant Park.

The Midtown park will be the site of what could be the biggest-ever game of musical chairs in New York City, with as many as 400 people ruthlessly trying to park their rear ends into seats when the music stops.

The musical pandemonium is designed to commemorate Bryant Park's 20th anniversary.

The adults-only competition starts at 8 p.m., and is expected to last roughly two hours. Advance registration is required.

The grand prize winner will go home with one of Bryant Park's famed chairs — and will get their name engraved on a seat that will remain in the park.

"The chair is one of the iconic images of this refurbished park," said Susie Sigel, the park's Special Projects Producer.

"It's a fun, festive way to get people involved in the anniversary."

The battle for seats will begin on the lawn with 20 simultaneous games of 20 players, all to tunes spun by deejay Stewey Decimal. The winner of each of the first-round games will advance to a second sudden-death round, where the true king or queen of musical chairs will be crowned.

The competition is expected to be fierce.

"All of them will begin to compete with each other," said comedian Sara Barron, who's hosting the event.

"I would be very afraid if an actual fight broke out."
