Building History & Neighborhood Information (courtesy of Plymouth Tower corporation)

Plymouth Tower was constructed in 1977 and designed by the architectural firm of Schuman, Lichtenstein, Claman. The entrance to the building is located on the Southwest corner of First Avenue and 93rd Street. The building spans First Avenue from 92nd to 93rd Street, featuring commercial stores including a Citibank ATM and pharmacy. The building has two large residential plazas, one at the building entrance, recently renovated under the supervision of the architect, William Q. Brothers III with a newly installed granite and cobble paved entrance and a lushly planted perennial garden and gazebo area designed by Natalie Cushman, Holly, Wood and Vine with contemporary park benches and stone garden seats. The building is planning to renovate the 92nd Street Plaza and plans are currently under review by the Department of City Planning. The 92nd street plaza design will compliment the newly renovated 93rd Street Plaza as well as the surrounding neighborhood.

This post-war 30 story beige brick luxury high rise has excellent views in various directions as many of the surrounding buildings are still low-rise buildings. The building neighborhood touches Yorkville to the South and Carnegie Hill to the North. It is a prime residential location situated one block east of the East River and the Asphalt Green playing fields, pool and fitness center and in walking distance of Carl Schurz Park and Gracie Mansion. It is also conveniently located four blocks from the 92nd Street Y an important cultural center for the neighborhood which features concerts, literary readings, continuing education and a fitness center. The neighborhood also features gourmet markets such as Butterfield Market & Catering, Eli’s Vinegar Factory, and Gourmet Garage as well as restaurants with multi-ethnic cuisines. A recent addition to our neighborhood is the weekly Sunday Green Market bringing farm fresh produce as well as fish and bakery items.

Of the original 356 units this building features a number of apartments which have been combined into larger units over the years. This full service building features an elegant marble lined entrance and lobby with 24 hour doorman/concierge as well as a resident building manager and service staff. Three passenger elevators and a dedicated service elevator bring residents directly to the mezzanine laundry room or roof top Health Club. A spacious private roof top residential club which includes a Gym with a rolled rubber floor and state of the art fitness equipment and 24-channel Cardio Theater/TVs. There is a lounge, sauna, lifeguard supervised swimming pool and Jacuzzi with access to a landscaped roof deck with outdoor furniture for the year round enjoyment of residents. A well equipped laundry room is located on the mezzanine level of the building. At the ground level the building has a full service garage which can be accessed from the building. Residents have a choice of three cable providers: Time Warner Cable, RCN and Verizon FIOS.

Our building is convenient to public transportation, only two blocks from cross town buses (M86 and M31) as well as subway lines within walking distance at 86th Street and 96th Street as well as easy access to all parts of Manhattan. Plymouth Tower is a block away from the entrance to the FDR Drive which enables quick access to bridges out of the city and New York's LaGuardia Airport which is only a 15-minute taxi ride.

Plymouth tower in the past thirty years has become home to a culturally diverse community of all ages, family oriented and open to residents with pets.

The neighborhood continues to grow, in addition to the Marmara Manhattan residential suite hotel, a new hotel, the Marriott Courtyard Upper East Side Manhattan was recently built next door to our building, East Side Middle School 114 is presently under construction and will replace (PS 158) which originally stood in this location. In 2007 construction began on the Second Avenue Subway which is an extension of the Q line to 96th Street and is estimated to be completed in 2015. A subway stop will be conveniently located on Second Avenue and 94th Street.

Originally opened as a rental building, Plymouth Tower was converted to a cooperative in 1986.
