Taxi company owner Basil Messados hopes to set the new standard for luxury in Queens with the listing of his three-bedroom Long Island City penthouse condominium unit for $5.4 million. If it sells for that price, it would be the borough’s priciest single-family sale ever.

Messados bought the apartment at 46-30 Center Boulevard for $2.5 million in 2009. The home features a wraparound terrace, cathedral ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, a dining room and dark wood floors, according to the New York Daily News.

“Someone had to do it,” said listing broker Silvette Julian of Nest Seekers International. “This is a really unique penthouse.” The current sales record for Queens is held by a $3.35 million Long Island City condo that traded hands last year

Messados mainly used the apartment to put up guests visiting from Greece, Julian said.

In the fourth quarter of last year, the median home price in Queens rose 15% year over year to $430,000. [NYDN] — Tess Hofmann
