Bushwick
Lively and affordable, Bushwick has attracted many artists and
hipsters who have found themselves priced out of adjacent Williamsburg.
With quick access to both Manhattan and the cultural hub to the west,
the neighborhood has become increasingly appealing to non-artists as
well.
There is lots of range in the residential scene; in the northern,
formerly industrial, section of the neighborhood, loft apartments are
opening in old factories. In the southern and eastern parts of the
neighborhood, children play on sidewalks as their parents chat with
neighbors in front of clapboard walk-ups. Commercial offerings are
beginning to develop, and bustling thoroughfares like Wyckoff Avenue
have plenty of room for new shops and restaurants.
- Brownstone:
- Built in the Eighteen or Nineteen century. Originally built as luxurious one family homes, these houses usually feature fireplaces, moldings and other typical prewar characteristics. Offers the luxury of a private home in the city and often were converted to multiple apartment buildings.
