About Lapa

Lapa is a neighborhood and former Portuguese parish in the city of Lisbon.

In this territory is concentrated a large part of the embassies of foreign countries existing in Portugal and also the Assembly of the Republic (Palácio de São Bento) and the official residence of the Prime Minister of Portugal (Palacete de São Bento).

It was in this area that the nobility and the bourgeoisie became established in the 18th century. Its name comes from the old Convent of Nossa Senhora da Estrela.
Today, this historical heritage is still felt. It is one of the most reputable neighborhoods in Lisbon, with large and perfectly preserved old houses, many of them being old palaces. The magnific Basílica da Estrela is an inevitable point while visiting the area, right in front of Jardim da Estrela. This Garden at the top is the only flat spot, and the whole neighborhood unfolds downwards, in one of the several hills of Lisbon. You can see the Tejo River and the 25 de Abril Bridge in the distance, and you can hear the sound of tram 28 going up Calçada da Estrela.

About Lisbon

Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and the center of a multifaceted region that appeals to different tastes and senses.

In a city that has received many different cultures from far and wide distances over time, it still feels like a village breath in every historical neighborhood. We can walk through the streets of Baixa Pombalina that opens to the river in Praça do Comércio and, following the river, there are some of the most beautiful places in the city: the monumental area of Belém with World Heritage monuments, medieval neighborhoods, and also more recent areas of contemporary leisure facilities, such as Parque das Nações or Docas.
