The city of Hollywood, FL is located in Broward County, and was founded in 1925. The city enjoyed rapid growth in the 1950s and the 1960s, and now holds the rank of the twelfth largest city in Florida, with a population estimated at around 145,000 people. The city of Hollywood, Florida, has roots dating back to 1920, when developer Joseph W.Young, Jr. sealed the deal that got him one square mile of land. ON this small piece of Florida real estate, Young planned to erect a city. Initially, he called it Hollywood-by-the-Sea. Young had lived in southern California, and his architectural styles (a harmony of influences from Moorish to Spanish-eclectic) were heavily influenced by his background. This lead to city plans focusing on vistas and parks, wide boulevards and a fusion of architectural styles, all of which can still be seen in buildings throughout Hollywood today.

Every year, the Hollywood Historical Society holds a Founder's Day Celebration. Officially, Founder's day fall son August 4th (the birthday of Joseph W.
