Located in Broward County, Florida, Pompano Beach, whose name comes from a local type of fish, the pompano, is currently experiencing revitalization, thanks to a large amount of construction and development now occurring at its beach area. Located north of Ft. Lauderdale, Pompano Beach was featured in The Wall Street Journal, Money, and CNN as being one of the United State’s #1 markets for vacation homes.
Pompano Beach was first settled at the start of the twentieth century and became an official city in 1947, after experiencing a large influx of new citizens over the first decades of the century. The number continued to grow over the second portion of the century, including a significant number of people who keep winter homes in the city.
Pompano’s landmarks include Pompano Beach Airpark, most famous for being the Goodyear Blimp Spirit of Innovation’s home, and, of course, the beach itself.
Local hotels include the Ocean Point Resort, Atlantic Inn, Oceanfront Ebb Tide Hotel, Ronny D Resort Motel, Beachcomber Hotel & Villas, Sands Harbor Resort & Marina, Croton Arms, Surfside Motel, Villa Nova Motel, Lighthouse Cove Resort, Wyndham Royal Vista, Native Sun Resort, Ocean Palms Resort, Wyndham Sea Gardens, and Happy Holiday Resort.
Pompano Beach is also home to a large number of restaurants, such as Boca Bean Espresso, Ladifference, Mr. Submarine, Joe’s Coffee Shop, Miami Subs Grill, El Rancho Viejo, Joy’s Sub Shop, Galuppi’s, Brother Tuckers, Calypso Restaurant, Stingers Pizza, Carrabba’s, La Veranda, and J. Mark’s, and a bustling nightlife at places such as Lions Den Cabaret and Steakhouse, and Harp & Piper Irish Bar.
Local attractions include the Isle Casino & Racing at Pompano Park, Fern Forest Nature Park, Ocean Sands Spa, Pompano Beach Golf Course, Anchor Scuba Inc, Surf World Surf Shop, and Pompano Dive Center. Pompano also offers a number of museums and galleries, including the Pompano Beach Historical Society, Ely Educational Museum, Meridian Gallery, and Pompano Beach Art Gallery, as well as some theatres: Curtain Call Playhouse and Poet Productions.
Pompano features a number of annual festivals, some of the most popular of which are the Pompano Beach Seafood Festival, St. Patrick’s Irish Festival, St. Coleman’s Italian Festival, the Pompano Beach Holiday Boat Parade, and the Annual Nautical Flea Market at Pompano Community Park & Amphitheater. Pompano Beach also hosts a monthly “Scenic A1A” Car Show & Cruise-In Night, which, according to the event’s press material, “showcases classic cars, antiques, specialty vehicles and more.” The show is a real event, with a raffle and door prizes, and classic music from the 50s, 60s, and 70s playing in the background.
Nearby neighborhoods include Deerfield Beach, Hillsboro Beach, and Lighthouse Point to the north, Coconut Creek to the west, and Fort Lauderdale, Margate, North Lauderdale, and Lauderdale-by-the-Sea to the south.
Local transportation is mainly provided by the Pompano Beach Community Bus and the Broward County Transit Bus.

Pompano Beach is a city in Broward County, Florida, along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean just to the north of Fort Lauderdale. The Nearby Hillsboro Inlet forms part of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. As of 2007, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated the city's population was 102,745. It is part of the South Florida metropolitan area, which is home to 5,413,212 people. Pompano Beach is currently in the middle of a redevelopment process of its neglected beachfront which promises to reinvent the city. The city has also been listed as one of the top real estate markets being featured in CNN, Money and the Wall Street Journal as one of the country's top vacation home markets. Pompano Beach Airpark, located within the city, is the home of the Goodyear Blimp Spirit of Innovation.
