Flatbush, also known widely as Flatbush-Ditmas Park is a quickly growing neighborhood just south of Brooklyn’s historic Prospect Park. The neighborhood is marked by Parkside Avenue and Avenue H on the north and south, with Coney Island and New York avenues marking its western and eastern borders, respectively. Train acce3ss here is serviced by the B&Q trains on Flatbush Avenue and the 2&5 trains on Nostrand Avenue, giving residents less than an hour commute to Midtown Manhattan.

The area has a cultural mix of West Indian, Russian and Pakistani residents who enjoy proximity to Prospect Park, a popular landmark that is used for many different community events all-year round. The Park was created by the designers of Manhattan’s Central Park offers a variety of fun activities for everyone in the family, from Summer Concerts in the park to marathons for runners, swimmers and bikers, and nature program like bird-watching. Residents of Flatbush-Ditmas Park are also just a short stroll to The Brooklyn Botanical Garden

Flatbush has changed a lot recently with the addition of many restaurants and bars. Although The Kings Theatre was built in 1929 it was recently restored and gives the area some nightlife options for those seeking comedy shows, concerts and other types of entertainment. Flatbush Avenue is currently experiencing a rapid turnover of commercial buildings that are being converted into new coffee shops and restaurants. And nearby Cortelyou Road is also buzzing with great local eateries such as FIB Tattoo bar, a hip spot for those interested in grabbing a drink while getting inked, and The Farm on Adderly, a farm-to-table restaurant that has become a neighborhood staple. Residents frequent the Co-op for fresh produce and other groceries and the neighborhood also boasts a Target for everyday shopping.

Rental apartments in this area tend to be well below the median asking price in Brooklyn so the Flatbush neighborhood is a great location for anyone looking for a bargain in Brooklyn. As far as the sales market, the historic part of the neighborhood, specifically known as Ditmas Park, is much harder to come by. Many of the single and multi-family homes in Flatbush-Ditmas Park are spacious with very unique layouts that give residents a respite from the hustle and bustle of city-life. With over 2000 Victorian, Queen Anne, Japanese Cottage, Greek Revival, Colonial Revival style mansions, the neighborhood is home to the largest collection of this vintage architecture in the country.
