Architectural Style: Cape Cod

In the second half of the 1940s, American GIs returned home from World War 2. They married and looked for housing. American Industry responded. The business plan of "Levitt and Sons" was to produce a lot of houses, quickly and inexpensively. The idea spread to other developers. Levitt and its competitors chose designs for a small house with a square footprint and steeply slanted roof. Stairs on the main floor led to attic space for "future expansion". Evidently, the style reminded some influential person of the cottages on Cape Cod, and the name stuck!!!
