Park Slope South, or South Slope as the neighborhood is often referred to, is a neighborhood just South of Historic Park Slope, North of the Green-wood Heights and Sunset Park neighborhoods and West of Prospect Park. The neighborhood officially became “South Park Slope” when it was rezoned in 2005, but has been referred to as South Slope for many years. The rezoning bounded the area between 15th street and 24th Street, though many consider 9th and 10th streets as part of South Slope, making the subject of boundaries in this neighborhood completely muddled.  

Park Slope, the neighborhood just north of South Slope, is known for its bustling streets filled with cafes, bars and restaurants, as well as families with strollers and pets. Despite its proximity, Park Slope South is a lot quiet in comparison. Here you’ll find more local hangouts with a deeper Brooklyn feel.  

Locals here can enjoy neighborhood spots like Roots Café, a known artist’s coffeehouse, vintage shopping and even a late-night marine-themed bar, called Sea WitchCafé Steinhof, an Australian eatery serving a variety of sandwiches, sausages and cheese spaetzli. A community garden known as 6/15 Green draws in the public and hosts occasional events for children and adults. Of course, for those looking for more nighttime activities, Park Slope’s 5th avenue is just a few minutes away.  

Real Estate in South Slope is primarily made up of pre-war row houses, and compared to its neighbor to the north, the area is much more affordable with the median rent in South Slope is $2000 and the median sales price is just above a million dollars. There has been a wave of new, non-contextual construction in recent years predominantly in the inner blocks with higher density development along 4th Avenue, known as Brooklyn’s “Canyon of Mediocrity”. One new project on the way to the neighborhood is an 11-story condo that will rise a short distance away from the Green-Wood Cemetery.  

South Slope is a bike friendly neighborhood and is serviced by the F Train on 4th Avenue with the G and R trains at 4th Avenue and 9th Street. The D and N express trains on 36th St. and 4th Avenue is just one stop to Atlantic Avenue Barclays Terminal where straphangers can catch the BDNQR234 & 5 trains. The area has several bus lines on 5th avenue.
