The group looking to utilize the vacant storefronts (there are roughly 200 of them in the area) is known as MiLES (Made in the Lower East Side), and consists of six different, creative organizations with the common goal of transforming vacant lots in the LES into "quick-hit rental spaces for community meetings, art exhibitions, stores or even a friendly potluck dinner."
