New York City is home to some of the world’s most incredible real estate—but what exactly about a building draws in the ultra-rich and famous? For many, it’s privacy—and sustainability. And A-listers have flocked to The Riverhouse, located in Manhattan’s North Battery Park/West Tribeca area, for its safety and seclusion. It also is known as one of the greenest buildings in New York.

The recent crown jewel to list within the building just so happens to be worthy of a celebrity resident. The ‘Celebrity Penthouse Residence,’ or RH8, recently hit the market for $18.8 million. Located on the 32nd floor, the condo has exquisite views of downtown and uptown Manhattan and the Hudson River, where residents are privy to sunrise and sunset views. In fact, the unit uniquely has exposures in every direction. The residence is so appealing that Leonardo DiCaprio once offered $15 million for the pad on the spot.

This residence spans 4,100 square feet and has four bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms. It’s made for entertaining, and the oversized living room, which is wrapped in floor-to-ceiling windows, feels airy and light. Not only is this space drenched in sunlight, but there’s plenty of white wall space for avid art collectors to hang their favorite pieces. The living room connects to a formal dining area and a kitchen and breakfast nook allows for more informal everyday dining in style.

However, it’s the primary suite that steals the show. The room is full of texture and elegance, and the corner exposure makes it feel incredibly spacious. There’s a generous walk-in closet, luxe bathroom and endless views. As broker Danny Abraham says, living in this penthouse is like “living inside a private jet.”

For sustainability-minded buyers, there are plenty of green touches. First, this is the only LEED-certified Green Condominium with LEED Gold certification status. Sustainable features within the unit include teak cabinets, bamboo floors, solar-powered energy, air and water filters and materials and finishes made without pollutants. The units also feature low pollution paint, eco-friendly carpet, humidity control and triple-glazed windows to keep the heat out.

The full-service building features a 24-hour concierge, on-site parking garage, 50-foot lap pool, fitness center, billiards area, landscaped interior courtyard, outdoor terrace, media cafe, treehouse lounge, children’s playroom and a private pet grooming area. It also is located just off the Hudson River and near Rockefeller Park, perfect for easy access to running and walking paths and green spaces for enjoying year-round.

According to the NY Post, Banks loved the building so much she bought four units above $10 million in 2009, while DiCaprio at one point owned two units within the building. Other famous past residents include Oliver Stone and Cobie Smulders. The building was designed by David Rockwell and completed in 2008. The 32-story building has 258 units.
